MayaTech Appoints Valerie Spencer as Chief Operating Officer

Valerie R. Spencer has been named chief operating officer of The MayaTech Corporation, an applied social science research, technical assistance, information technology, and communications firm headquartered in Silver Spring, Md. Formerly the firm's senior vice president for corporate operations, Spencer has been was responsible for managing the growth and expansion of MayaTech's infrastructure in Maryland and Atlanta, Ga.

"Valerie's oversight of corporate administration, human resources, facilities management, and internal communications has significantly enhanced MayaTech staff and organizational competencies," said Jean-Marie Mayas, Ph.D., president and CEO of The MayaTech Corporation. "Her contributions have been and will continue to be an integral part of the company's ability to deliver optimal solutions to our clients."

As chief operating officer, Spencer will provide overall management of the company's day-to-day activities, supervise the operation and improvement of the systems and processes that create and deliver company products and services, and ensure that MayaTech's strategic plans are effectively integrated throughout the organization. "One of my personal goals in this new position is to leverage MayaTech's experience from over two decades of client service to bring best-in-industry management systems to our Federal and private sector customers," says Spencer.

Spencer joined MayaTech in 1990 as the human resource specialist and was appointed to vice president for Human Resources in 1996. Prior to working at MayaTech, she held positions with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Tangent Corporation, and United Airlines.

Her background includes a B.A. in behavioral sciences from New York Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. degree from the University of Maryland University College. Spencer is an active participant in local and national professional, business, and community organizations including the National Contract Management Association and The Conference Board.
