MayaTech to Evaluate CDC Research on Traumatic Brain Injury

The MayaTech Corporation, a leading provider of consulting and technical services to Federal agencies, announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to conduct an assessment of traumatic brain injury grantee programs funded through CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC). MayaTech's evaluation will directly assist the Division of Injury Response in adhering to CDC's policy requiring all research programs be peer reviewed.

"This project builds upon our long-standing commitment to support Federal agencies in their efforts to ensure their programs are effective and have a positive impact on society," says Jamie Chriqui, Ph.D., director of MayaTech's Center for Health Policy and Legislative Analysis. "It's another example of how we help our clients improve their work and address our nation's public health needs."

According to CDC data, an estimated 1.4 million Americans sustain a traumatic brain injury each year, most often due to falls, motor vehicle traffic crashes, and being struck by persons or against objects. MayaTech's assessement of the productivity and quality of the collective research being done on traumatic brain injury by CDC grantees will help to identify opportunities for further studies on how to control related morbidity, disability, death, and associated costs.

Jean O'Connor, J.D., M.P.H., deputy manager of MayaTech's Center for Health Policy and Legislative Analysis, will serve as project director of the traumatic brain injury research evaluation, which will begin immediately and be completed within one year. O'Connor has extensive experience in policy research and evaluation, and completed a similar research portfolio evaluation in May for CDC's Division of Unintentional Injury on falls and hip injuries among older adults.
