James Bridgers Jr. To Lead Community Prevention and Treatment Research Center
James Bridgers Jr. has been named manager of the Center for Community Prevention and Treatment Research (CPTR) of The MayaTech Corporation, an applied social science research, technical assistance, information technology, and communications firm headquartered in Silver Spring, Md. In this role, Bridgers will be responsible for increasing health promotion and research collaborations between public health agencies and community partners.
In announcing the appointment, MayaTech President and CEO Jean-Marie Mayas, Ph.D., said, "James is one of the most experienced managers in the company, having directed a series of contracts with public health agencies where effective management of clients and project resources were paramount. His extensive record of project management, program development and planning, and organizational management will be vital to leading the progressive expansion of CPTR-based projects."
As the manager of CPTR, Bridgers will oversee researchers based in MayaTech's Silver Spring and Atlanta offices. "One of my highest priorities will be to increase our program development and evaluation service offerings to our public sector clients, while broadening the subject-matter expertise of our center staff," said Bridgers. "This will require a continued enhancement of our infrastructure to support efficient integration of community-focused policy development, program design, technical assistance, and research and evaluation, necessary for comprehensive public health solutions."
Bridgers has been with MayaTech since 1988, holding various positions addressing issues of HIV/AIDS, cancer, substance abuse prevention, and working with underserved communities. Most recently, he was a senior technical associate with the firm's Center for Technical Assistance, Training, and Research Support, serving as deputy project director for two important projects for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and Center for Substance Abuse Prevention.
Bridgers has a bachelor's of science degree in psychology and a master's of science degree in health education from Howard University. He is currently enrolled in the doctoral program in family studies at the University of Maryland, College Park.
The MayaTech Corporation is a diversified professional and technical services company that provides applied social science research and evaluation, conference and logistics management, information development and dissemination, technical assistance and training, and international development services to public and private sector clients.
