The MayaTech Corporation Lends a Hand to Silver Spring Families
On Friday, December 19, employees of The MayaTech Corporation, a Silver Spring-based professional and technical services firm, helped make the holidays a little brighter for residents in the surrounding community by delivering gift boxes to four families who needed a helping hand during this economic downturn. As part of the Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC), MayaTech coordinated with Interfaith Works to help donate food and toys for the Montgomery County Holiday Giving Project.
“It was heartwarming to see the items come pouring into the office day after day,” said Ilaria Driver, MayaTech human resources manager and coordinator for the volunteer effort. “Even staff from our Atlanta office and our telecommuting staff located across the country joined in the gift-giving by mailing money or gift cards.”
Kristianna Pettibone, Ph.D., manager of MayaTech’s Center for Community Prevention and Treatment Research, who telecommutes from Winston-Salem, N.C., was one several far-reaching donors who responded to the Silver Spring holiday project. “We have so much and are able to give our girls so much that it seemed like we should be as generous as possible,” said Pettibone. “I wish I could have been there to help organize.”
The MayaTech team collected more than enough perishable and nonperishable fixings for a holiday meal for each family. In addition to food, the boxes included gift cards to retail stores to enable the parents to purchase toys for their children. In total, the company brought help to a family of five, two families of six, and a family of seven who all share the same zip code as The MayaTech headquarters.
