of Children and Families 
Peter Panzarella has been a steadfast advocate for adolescent substance abuse treatment in
a state system that hasn't always provided the necessary support and resources for this problem.
Peter has worked tirelessly to gain support within his own state agency and the state legislature
for adolescent substance abuse services. The transformation in the state adolescent treatment
system in the quality and quantity of services that are now available to substance abusing
youth and their families in Connecticut is testimony to the success of his vision and efforts.

Congratulations to Connecticut Renaissance
John Hamilton wrote that Connecticut Renaissance represents one of our best examples of an
agency that has created an organizational culture that effectively implements and adopts
evidence-based practices (EBT). This includes implementing specific protocols like MET/CBT12,
FSN, MST, Aggression Replacement Therapy (ART), case management, and contingency management,
as well as introducing a wide range of screening and brief intervention in local schools,
colleges and juvenile justice facilities. Moreover, they understand what it takes to make
these things work in practice and have simultaneously emphasized taping sessions for feedback,
staffing, and individual supervision. Accepting for the program are Patrick McAuliffe,
Elisabeth-Leigh Bradley, and Laura Shipman.

Congratulations to Howard Liddle
Howard Liddle has made an unequaled contribution to the field of adolescent substance
abuse treatment and has produced clinically relevant research findings that have significantly
impacted practice. His passion for this work and dedication to improving treatment for teens
are clear. While many researchers have been instrumental to the field's advances during the
last 2 decades, Dr. Liddle's sustained commitment to improving practice for teen drug abuse
and the impact of his work on clinical practice are unparalleled.

Congratulations to Elise Lopez
Elise
Lopez epitomizes the best of what we all hope for when working with teens. After treatment
she found support for her recovery in the Clean and Sober Theater, has served for three years
on the Pima County Youth Substance Abuse Committee (PCYSAC), graduated high school, received
multiple awards and is now a Freshman at University of Arizona. She has become an a leading
voice for youth in recovery and an advocate for increasing the availability of evidenced based
treatment and continuing care.
