Book Reception: Adolescent Substance Abuse: Research and Clinical Advance
A reception was held to celebrate the publication of the new comprehensive volume published by Cambridge University Press and edited by Howard Liddle and Cynthia Rowe from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Center for Treatment Research on Adolescent Drug Abuse.
The book provides practitioners, program developers and policy makers with the most up-to-date and practical information for improving outcomes in adolescent substance abuse. Chapters cover a range of issues, including empirically-based treatment development protocols; how to incorporate innovative treatment models into diverse clinical ettings; research advances; interventions with special populations; culturally based intervention guidelines, and recommendations for practice and policy.
The SASATE Business Meeting
The SASATE Business Meeting took place on Monday, March 27. Everyone was welcome to attend. Job Announcement: Director of Adolescent Services, Phoenix House/ New York
Phoenix House is recruiting a Director of Adolescent Services in New York who will be responsible for new program development as well as the management of our full continuum of adolescent treatment services. Current services include adolescent admissions and outreach activities; outpatient and school-based services provided at multiple locations; residential treatment programs (called Phoenix Academies) with a capacity to serve over 200 adolescents; and aftercare services. All substance abuse services for adolescents are closely integrated with educational programming so we work closely with several school systems and have a fully accredited high school on-site at one Phoenix Academy. Online Course: Adolescent Chemical Dependency: Current Perspectives and Treatment Approaches
The Addiction Technology Transfer Center of New England, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) is offering a credited, introductory on-line course on substance abusing adolescents.
This course will begin on May 1, 2006 and will run for 5 weeks. The required time commitment is 2 hours per week (10 contact hours). Read More.
The StepUPĀ® Program
The StepUPĀ® Program exists to provide ongoing support to students who are committed to sobriety and in recovery from alcohol and other drugs and who are willing to progress toward an academic degree, incorporating Augsburg's commitment to a high quality liberal arts education. The program provides recovery support that builds on the continuum of care from treatment services to halfway and three quarter way houses. The development of a community of recovery on the campus provides natural and realistic next steps for young people as they work to stay in recovery while progressing to age appropriate occupational and social functioning.
