Travel Assistance Awards
Professionals Travel Awards:
Travel awards of up to $1,000 each are available to assist clinical staff, local/state government employees, or students who do not have access to grant or organizational funds to attend the JMATE. The letter requesting assistance should include:
- A statement of need (i.e., why the applicant should receive the stipend and does not have the opportunity/resources to attend the conference otherwise)
- Any contributions to the meeting (e.g., plans to present)
- A plan to use the meeting to further professional development
- An intention to use the knowledge gained from the meeting to help further effective adolescent treatment because of the applicant's current study/work position
- The applicant's current position as a clinician, government employee, researcher, or student
- The applicant's employer or sponsoring organization
- The travel award amount desired (up to $1,000) with estimated amounts for travel, hotel, and per diem.
Note: Receipts will be required for reimbursement of expenses.
Consumer Travel Awards:
Travel awards of up to $1,000 for one person or $2,000 if there is a chaperone (required for teens) or traveling companion are available to assist a consumer (teen family member, or community leader) attend the JMATE. The letter requesting assistance should include:
- A description of involvement in trying to improve practice, the field, or the lives of teens on the pathway to recovery
- Specific contributions to the meeting, if applicable
- Plans to use the meeting to support local consumer efforts
- The name and contact information of the applicant
- The name, contact information, and relationship of the chaperone or traveling companion
- The travel award amount desired (up to $1,000) with estimated amounts for travel, hotel, and per diem.
Note: If a chaperone other than a teen's parent or legal guardian is seeking a travel award, the nomination letter should include a signed statement by the parent/guardian giving permission for the chaperone to accompany the teen. Travel arrangements should specify whether the chaperone will stay in the same room with the teen or if a separate room is required. Receipts will be required for reimbursement of expenses on all travel awards.
