Welcome
The theme of the 2008 Joint Meeting on Adolescent Treatment Effectiveness (JMATE) was "Addressing Diversity." This theme encompasses a wide range of topics from addressing the broad diversity of adolescents in treatment and recovery to meeting the needs of stakeholders from different disciplines.
JMATE provides a forum for a wide range of partners to come together to discuss the latest advances in adolescent drug treatment, with a particular emphasis on the unique perspectives of youth and their families. The conference promotes discussion among researchers, treatment providers, families, youth, community leaders, and policy makers about how clinical practices can be improved and how different constituencies can contribute to these efforts.
JMATE's Mission
JMATE's mission is to convene many different constituencies to work together toward integrating substance abuse, mental health, and co-occurring systems of care for youth and their families. Improving these systems involves listening to the "family voice," and respecting that voice. As professionals, we are asking family members and youth to talk to us, to tell us their frustrations with the system, and to discuss with us what is happening in their communities. We must give them a safe environment to do so, without allowing them to be misunderstood, attacked, or belittled. Read more.
